Yogyakarta (Week 27)

Selamat Pagi semuanya!
This week is good. I really feel great things are going to happen in Jogja and, like usual, I witnessed some pretty great miracles! I love being a missionary...It's so great :) And I especially love Indonesia!!! Here's my week:

Senin: For P-day we went with on of the members to a university campus and toured around. It was really neat and lots of fun. We got to visit Obama's home when he lived here in Yogya! Pretty neat. I also met with another bule on the bus and it was funny because I tried speaking English with her but she didn't really understand me so I tried Indonesian and she understood! She's from Ceko (Czech Republic). She's here studying Indonesian for a year. It was really funny that we didn't understand each other in English but in Indonesian it was just fine!

Selasa: After our weekly meeting with the ward mission leader we stayed to practice the song we were singing in Sacrament Meeting and then in walks in two amazing people, Eddy and Hoa. They just moved from Jakarta and were looking for a church to go to when they found ours. I guess they've come 2 times before but no one has been at the church. They are also both deaf. So to communicate we wrote back and forth to each other. It was humbling. Sister Toegono and I are teaching them and they are just amazing people. They've already accepted the commitment to be baptized. This was the big miracle for the week! I'm so excited to get to know them further.
Rabu: We had a meeting with the whole zone here in Jogja. It was really great to see the other missionaries again and hear about how things are going. There are awesome things happening in Indonesia, especially in Zone Jawa Tenggah! We're all working hard and seeing wonderful blessings. The Lord is hastening His work and I am so grateful to be apart of it. Especially here in Indonesia.
Kamis: Just a normal working day here in Jogja. Nothing huge happened. But I got to work with Sister Toegono which is always a blessing!

Jumat: Just another normal day. We met with Mama Hawk again (such a sweet name) and her sister Ibu Senang (Ibu Happy). Cool right?! They are great, faithful people. We also met again with an investigator who's husband is recovering from a stroke. It's been really hard on her because he doesn't have his memory. But she's been humbled and I hope ready for this gospel!
Sabtu: Another hard working day! This is when we gave the commitment to Eddy and Hoa to be baptized. Ah, such a great day!
Hari Minggu: we had 3 investigators come to church! And one of them I didn't expect to come AND he brought a friend! SIIP! I may have done a small happy dance when that happened. It was a good Sunday :)
Well today we want to go to the temple! ...a Buddhist temple but still cool right? I'll be sure to take pictures. Thank you for your love, support, prayers, letters, emails, everything!!! I love being a missionary and serving in Indonesia. I know God lives and loves us all and Christ is our Redeemer.
Have a great week everyone!

dengan Kasih,
Sister Sperry :)

Yogyakarta (Week 26)

Wow! This week was pretty great. I'm loving my new companion, Sister Toegono. She just learns super fast and is an all around amazing missionary. She doesn't need a trainer really. Well here's how the week went.
Senin: All the new missionaries made it, Sister Olsen (AHHH!! SO HAPPY TO SEE HER!) and Elder Murphy. We had Family Night as a district which was way fun and neat. I'm super excited to work with everybody here and I just feel like miracles are just waiting to happen! Good things are going to happen in Jogja.
These are a few of my favorite things...chick-fil-a sauce and reeses!
Selasa: Well this was my first official day working with Sister Toegono. Poor thing...I forgot the way to one of the homes we wanted to visit and we ended up getting lost. But it was also a good thing because we contacted someone who wants to hear our message! It was really fun to work with Sister Toegono.

Rabu: Another good day! Because our investigating pool is a little low we did lots of contacting which was good. We're workin' hard and havin' fun!
Kamis: Unfortunately I was sick and couldn't go out a work as much as I would have hoped but it was still a good day for learning. We planned for a good week this up coming week and I am excited.
Jumat: More proselyting! Which was actually really good. I really enjoy just talking to people. The people here in Jogja are so friendly especially when you try to speak a little Javanese. I played chess against one contact and man she killed me. I had no chance. I've gotta work on that "skill".
Sabtu:We Contacted a few referrals from a less active member. One of them is named "Mama Hawk". Is that not a cool name?! She has lots of potential for progression too. Everyone we met with does and it just felt like a really successful day.
Hari Minggu: We rode our bike FAR to meet with a less active family. They gave us the referral of their youngest son and we are excited to start working with him. His name is Alma. We think it'll really help this family out.

I love missionary work! I love being here in Indonesia. I know all missionaries think this but I really feel like this mission is different, unique. I love these people and life is great.
With love and ugly legs (due to many mosquito bites!),
Sister Sperry :)

Yogyakarta (Week 25)

Selamat Pagi semuanya!
Wow can you believe it's already Maret?! Where is the time going?! I can't believe I've already hit my 6 month mark in the mission and on the 12th I'll be 6 months in Indonesia...crazy! Well here's my week.
Senin: As a district we visited Kraton which is where like a servant of the king or someone really big lives. It wasn't completely clear who lives there but it was still really neat! It had a lot of cultural things and there was a group playing percussion instruments there. I just realized that I had seen a group like them before at BYU once (remember that mom?). Later that night we had FHE with the bishop, his family, and Mbak Atin. It was really good!

Selasa: Sister Siska, one of the members here, invited us to her restaurant to eat for free. It was WAY yummy. It's a pretty neat place too. It's also her home and the Elders teach her youngest son. Cool! We also had our last WML (ward mission leader meeting) with Sister Allred, Believe and Elder James. Crazy!

Rabu: Was a pretty normal day. Met with people and had some really good lessons. Nothing too special. Except I did get to learn a little more about eternal marriage that I didn't know before. Donctrine and Covenants 131and 132 is really good.

Kamis: This was my last official day with Sister Belive! We again taught some good lessons and packed a little for her departure and for me to pick up my new companion in Jakarta.

Jumat: I flew out to Jakarta and it was like coming home! I love Jakarta even though it sometimes gives me a headache. I got to meet with Sister Narko again and some of the new missionaries from the Provo MTC but most importantly I met my Trainee! Sister Toegono (toe-go-no). She's from Bekasi and is really cool! I am super excited to work with her!

Sabtu: Sister Toegono and I got some extra advice from President Donald and I got to visit my old appartment again. We left for Jogja that night and got in a little late because the flight was delayed.
Hari Minggu: It was a crazy sunday. Pictures with everyone and we dropped Sister Believe off at the airport. It was bitter sweet but she's going to do great things in Medan. Then Sister Toegono and I did a weekly planning session and we've got a good week set up!

I love this work! I know this is where I need to be right now. I love you all and thank you for everything!
with love,
Sister Sperry  :)
